I made the mistake today of "buying" a Philip Treacy hair ornament from www.Cocosa.com ... When I say "buy" I mean I received an email confirming my order and that they had charged my card.
Then there were missed calls (phone in bag during lunch), and this fabulous email:
Also, whilst checking the electoral roll may be done with a person's permission for something like a credit check ... I have never heard of it done in conjunction with a credit card payment. I'm also pretty sure it would be illegal both to do so, and to live in a post office.

Hi Dorothy,I have a registered billing address, but am not on "the open electoral roll database" because it just leads to junk mail, and no-one I know is. I also have a registered delivery address which the bank knows about, but again is not on "the open electoral roll database" because it's a post office box, and ... well, someone very small might live in it, but if they do, I'm surprised they lied to the government and claimed it as their home.
Thank you for placing your order xxxxxx with Cocosa.
Unfortunately, we have had problems processing the payment for your order, due to the mismatch in some of the information you have provided us with. Could you please contact us by telephone to confirm the address where your card is registered and the name as it appears on the card? Also, could you please confirm that name of the person registered on the open electoral roll database at the delivery address so that we can confirm the delivery address details? Once we have this information, we will be able to re-contact our payment processor to discuss whether we can accept the order.

We are unable to keep your order open indefinitely, if we have not received a suitable response from you within 48 hours your order will automatically be cancelled.I tried to cancel the order by email but they didn't bother to answer. I tried to cancel it online, but there is no option to do so. I wouldn't want to do business with a company that announces:
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused, if you would like you discuss this further, you can do so on 0844 335 0116 from Monday to Sunday.
Kind regards,
Clare at Cocosa
"Once we have this information, we will be able to re-contact our payment processor to discuss whether we can accept the order."I have asked around, and do not know anyone else who has ordered sucessfully from Cocosa. My only assumption is that Cocosa is some sort of sophisticated version of a Nigerian Email scam involving fashion, and I hope readers will warn their friends about it. I know internet fashion sites sound appealing to those of us who work around the clock, but I suspect this will take more time to sort out than a visit to Treacy's shop would have done - in future I will stick to Net-A-Porter.com ...
