Thanks to someone quoting biblical armageddon from my file sharing… I will no longer be putting up links.

By the way, mr openaccessarchaeology, hotlinking files is a no class act.

See his post here.

Ugh. You know what, I understand why piracy in entertainment is an issue but the two things aren’t at all comparable. Movies, TV shows etc. are widely available for minimal cost anyway whereas textbooks are priced so extravagantly highly that, frankly, I think you’re doing a public service by making them available for those of us that can’t afford them. The fact of the matter is that the books are important for our studies and our intellectual growth and are often available for free anyway from university libraries. In the cases where they’re not, file sharing is an important resource for a lot of students.

A perfect example is recently when I was looking into buying a series of three palaeoanth textbooks and the best price I could get was $1000.

And there’s a fair bit of irony in that person proselytising against file sharing but hotlinking the files in their post regardless. Jesus. What a dumbass.

This is both hilarious and disheartening. Come on.

Hi. The post about file sharing was meant to be tongue and cheek. Most publishers act like sharing information is the end of the world thus whole it’s the end of the world reference. The links were put in so that people would download the books. It was a way to encourage people to access the knowledge. If you notice at the end- “Two, the prices of knowledge is so expensive that people are now willing to pirate the material. Hmmm most economists would call that a market failure. That is that the current system is not providing people with what they need.” The post is ment to make fun of the current system and their reactions to people sharing. Sorry if anyone took it the wrong way.
