In early 2013, the American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR) created Friends of ASOR (FOA). Friends of ASOR are people interested in archaeological and historical research in the eastern Mediterranean. Since being founded in 1900, ASOR has supported and encouraged the study of the cultures and history of the Near East, from the earliest times to the present. We encourage anyone interested in cultural heritage preservation and archaeology to join our team. All you have to do is click here to register, or you can fill out the form on the sidebar (below this post if you’re viewing this on a mobile device). Though if you’re still unsure, here are 5 reasons why you should become a Friend of ASOR!
1. YOU RECEIVE THE ANCIENT NEAR EAST TODAY
The ANE Today is our monthly e-newsletter. It’s full of ideas, insights and archaeological discoveries. Appearing on the second Tuesday of each month, it features contributions from diverse academics, a forum featuring debates of current developments from the field, and links to news and resources. The ANE Today covers the entire Near East and each issue will present discussions ranging from the state of biblical archaeology to archaeology after the Arab Spring.
2. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT OF PROTECTING CULTURAL HERITAGE
ASOR sponsors excavations and partners with schools all over the Near East. Through archaeology we aim to protect the cultural heritage of the Near East. By becoming an FOA you show your support of our efforts to protect cultural heritage, as well as staying informed.
3. ACCESS TO GREAT RESOURCES
There are resources like our Women of ASOR map, multimedia presentations, videos and more that FOA’s have access to. I could tell you what they are, or you could register and find out. Soon there will be an entire website devoted to the resources available to Friends of ASOR, that only registered FOAs will have access to.
4. DISCOUNTS
What more needs to be said about this one? FOAs will receive exclusive discounts on merchandise and publications.
5. IT’S FREE
Last, but certainly not least, it’s FREE! Completely – 100 percent FREE. All you have to do is register. No trial time. No gimmicks. Just free. So, why not? Become a Friend of ASOR today!
