CAIRO--30th March 2012--Past Preservers is proud to announce that our recent signing, Dr. Allan Maca, will be joining the crew of onscreen archaeologists in the new season of Time Team America, set to air in 2013 on PBS.
Dr. Allan Maca

Currently a research archaeologist affiliated with Colgate University in New York, Allan Maca is Director of the Copan Urban Planning Archaeology Project, based at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Copan, an ancient Maya city in Honduras, Central America. Dr. Maca has a PhD in Anthropology from Harvard University. He specializes in the study of ancient cities and has also conducted archaeological fieldwork in Israel, Africa, and the United States.

Maca is no stranger to the screen, having brought his magnetic personality to documentary films and television for Lucasfilm and the History Channel. Regarding this opportunity with Time Team, Maca says, "This is what I love: educating the public and doing archaeology at the same time."

Maca is enamored of the cultures of Africa, Latin America, and Asia. He has hitchhiked alone round-trip from Nairobi to Cape Town and has driven several times from New York to Honduras and back. He speaks several languages and writes books about the history of American archaeology, but more than anything he believes in the power of TV and film to transform history and culture. Nigel Hetherington, CEO of Past Preservers, says “A true lover of heritage and archaeology, Allan Maca is sure to enrich Time Team because the audience has the privilege of learning from someone who is chasing his passion and educates with wit and humility."

The Time Team America Season 2 production will be a 4 hour PBS primetime series, set to air in 2013. Although information on all of the dig locations has not yet been released, this season’s episodes will be hosted by Justine Shapiro, who has also appeared as a host on Globe Trekker. The series, funded by National Science Foundation under their Informal Science Education initiative, also includes field schools for approximately 40 high school students on each of the four dig sites. Although the high school kids are not in the TV program itself, they will be engaged in a learning experience alongside the team working on the TV show. Hetherington says, “It promises to be an exciting project for everyone involved, and we anticipate great things from all sides.”

Allan Maca is represented by Past Preservers People, a boutique, full service talent agency representing individuals from around the globe who have a broad range of achievements, skills, and experience. The company is built around a small, diverse, talent pool, that shares the energy, passion, and drive necessary for success in the highly competitive television and film industries.
