Amid all the death and destruction, The General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums of the Syrian Ministry of Culture has announced the online Syrian Digital Library of Cuneiform, part of the Cuneiform Digital Library Initiative (CDLI).
The CDLI hosted website, available in English, French, and Arabic, already has a lot of very useful information. The list of archaeological sites, including Ugaritc, Mari, Ebla, and Emar, that yielded tablets now in Syrian museums is very impressive. So far only tablets from Tell Beydar (Nabada), Tell Bi'a (Tuttul), Umma and Drehem are completely available. These tablets are in Sumerian and Old Babylonian. It appears that about 30,000 tablets will eventual populate the Syrian Museums’ contribution to the CDLI online database. So stay tuned.
